Chukchi conventionally have believed in shamanism, and an influence of the family shamanism still remains. For example, when they kill a reindeer, they offer up the blood of the reindeer. A family with elder members keep the talisman that they have inherited from their ancestors. Every family has a drum, and at a "killing baby reindeer" festival, they sing while beating the drum.

A ladle for food offerings to their god or "gods" . When they kill a reindeer, they scoop up some of the blood, and, in the direction of sun rising in the east, they offer it up by splashing it in the sky.

Drums are the only musical instrument for Chukchi.
