Online Resource of Indonesian Folktales

overview

 Indonesia, the largest archipelago in the world, is also one of the largest treasure houses of folktales. The aim of this project is to collect the folktales and to construct an on-line database, which may be utilized by students with various disciplines, such as linguistics and anthropology.

 We are collecting folktales from the following sources.

(1) Lontar (Palm-leaf) manuscripts written in Bali and Kawi characters.
(2) Materials obtained during linguistic fieldwork.
(3) Folktales that have already been published inside and outside of Indonesia.

Results for the FY 2001 and 2002
(1) Collecting folktales which is already published inside and outside of Indonesia.
(2) Publishing Japanese translation of the collection above on the website.
 
Research program for the FY 2003
(1)Transcribing and translating lontar (palm-leaf) manuscripts in Lontar library in Udayana University in Bali.
(2) Continuing the activity carried on in the preciding years.
